Young Families Fun Meals - Report!

The "Young Families Fun Meals" held on Fridays 6th January, 27th January and 24th February can be claimed to have been an unqualified success. All were fun filled and riotous to say the least, but the youngsters were all amazingly well behaved, even after diets of Pizza, meatballs or chicken nuggetsand chips followed by ice-cream with sprinkles and various sauces. The clubhouse was "rockin", the Commodore had a great time playing Dominoes, "balloon bashing" and drawing paper fish for the youngsters! I was "Richard the Jellyfish"!

I must admit I cannot remember, apart from the recent curry evening, the last time the clubhouse was so lively. It was a pleasure to be present.

The evenings also allowed parents and grandparents to savour a relaxing few hours having a drink and chatting while their children "noshed" their way through their tea and entertained themselves in a safe environment.

These were the first three evenings of what the young members who attended hope will become a regular event. I understand they are now looking the fixture list to pick out a list of LWF's (Low Water Fridays) so these evenings can be continued through the summer months. There was also talk of sharing boats and having "Swallows and Amazon" sessions. This can only be a benefit to the club and several new young members have already joined.

Small profits were made on the food each night and the early bar takings up to 1900, when most young families began to drift off, were £100+. There were some guests and their children on each night and they were all impressed with the event, the clubhouse and friendly atmosphere. Some are, I gather, looking to become members themselves.

Personally, we feel these events are a great opportunity for the club to offer members with young children a chance to relax in pleasant surroundings, have a drink, socialise, introduce their children to the club and enjoy themselves. Many older members have expressed support and one long standing member and partner have already brought along their grandchildren to an evening and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's not quiet on these evenings and I've attached a short video showing the why. A bit of Noddy Holder with "C'mon Feel the Noise"!

Jean and Richard.
