Topsham
The town of Topsham has been trading since before Roman times but received its charter in 1300. It was an important centre of shipbuilding until the 19th century. The railway runs through with connections to Exeter and Exmouth. It is now acknowledged as one of the best places to live in the South West by The Sunday Times. There are numerous excellent pubs restaurants and cafes as well as a Saturday Market and a Museum. There are two boatyards, Retreat Boatyard is up at the M5 bridge and Trouts is just upriver of the town quay. The Quay is used for winter boat storage. There is a Cooperative supermarket, lots of independent shops in Topsham and Dart's Farm shop is not far away.
