Duties at TSC
Contributions by members underpin the sailing and social life of TSC. Indeed, since it was founded in 1885, members have generously committed their time to develop the club. For example, in the late 1950s, the clubhouse was entirely built by volunteers. Today, the yard is managed by members led by the Yard Marshall, including seasonal hauling out and launching of many boats in the cruiser fleet. All roles on the Committee are voluntary, and this brings TSC many different forms of expertise.
In short, members' active participation is part of the ethos of Topsham Sailing Club.
This principle is applied to the roles which make possible the routine sailing and social activities of the club. These are primarily associated with acting as Race Officers, providing a Safety Boat when needed and, not least, running the Bar and the Galley for both race nights and on regular or ad hoc times through the year.
Afloat, race duties are organised by the Cruiser, Yawl and Dinghy Fleet Captains.

Ashore, bar and galley duties are organised by the Bar Secretary, Godfrey Whitehouse, with the support of Committee member, David Hayler.

In this part of the website, some guidance and support is offered on how routine duties can be carried out. If in doubt, please do ask other members. Knowledge is widely shared and help is almost certainly at hand.
From the 2022 season, TSC adopted a new system to allocate and manage duties. This is introduced at 'Managing Duties within the Members' Portal' (see the left hand menu).
