Winter Storage and Prices

During the Winter period (1st October to 31st March) the Club Quay is allocated to Winter Storage for Cruisers. Applications for a Berth are made by Members on a list posted on the Club Board on 15th June each year and displayed until 15th August. The process is the same for space alongside the North Wall.

Storage Berths are allocated by the Committee at their September Meeting. The list is invariably oversubscribed and allocation is based on a points system which takes into account Members activity levels in Racing, Cruising and contributing generally to the Club's activities. As a general principle, boats which cannot be towed away will normally be given preference over Trailer Sailers.

The method used to handle the boats ashore is ideally suited to dealing with twin keeled boats, but there are exceptions involving the use of specially designed privately owned Cradles for some boats. The Yard Marshal is empowered to approve or not approve the use of such gear on safety grounds. The Club insists on masts being unstepped prior to hauling out.

The Club does NOT offer a contract lift.

Charges are made for storage including slippage based on the multiplier of length x beam both rounded up to the next half foot. The charge is billed in advance for the Winter Season for any allocated berth.

The maximum length of boats considered for storage is 32 feet and the maximum weight handled is 5 tonnes.

Each year a program for recovery and launching is prepared and Members storing their boats are expected to make themselves available to suit the program and to be flexible to allow for variations to the program due to weather or other circumstances.

Hauling out commences on suitable tides in October and launching is in March under the supervision of the Yard Marshall and his team.

Fees are set annually by the Committee and are paid in advance.

  • Winter storage
  • Cruisers, including slippage, £1.20 per sq ft
  • Punts / inflatables over wintering after 25th December 2020 £1.20 per sq ft
  • North Wall usage (tied alongside for the winter)
  • Single or multi-hull vessels £5.00 per linear foot.

Owners may work on their boats during the winter. All work done must be in accordance with Club Byelaws and environmental concerns.

Cars may be brought onto the yard for loading and unloading but not left unattended or obstructing safe passage.
