A new Duty System for TSC
Published 10:19 on 1 Mar 2022
The introduction of our new IT system brought with it a new method for managing duties, though the core of TSC's duty process will stay the same as before.
Duties afloat still allocated by Fleet Captains. In 2024 Duties ashore will be allocated mainly by Godfrey Whitehouse, with some by other club officers. As in the past, members can request swaps with others if the allocation is inconvenient for any reason.
Members can now indicate their duty preferences by visiting their 'Profile' in the Members' Portal.
This sets tags against your name to indicate your preferences, and these are the key to the way the system tries to align duties needed with willing volunteers.
The new system links duties to events in the Calendar. It sends messages to members concerning the allocation and any swaps or other changes.
It sends out reminders 3 weeks and 1 week ahead of any event for which a member is rostered. It invites people to collaborate together, with a handy group messaging facility within the Members' Portal at 'My Duties'.
If you are rostered, the first message you get will ask you to acknowledge this by clicking a link.
-please do click the link.
From there, the duty can be managed within the Members' Portal. More information about all this is available on the website.
This system is in use by some 200 UK sailing clubs and has been trialled in various ways by TSC. Constructive feedback is welcome.
